What is Self-love?

Let’s take a look at love, first. According to the word of God, Love is described as being so many beautiful things, such as patient, kind, and hopeful (1 Corinthians 13:4-7).

Therefore, Self-love is a love that expresses and mindfully shows these same tender attributes towards one’s self.

Here’s the thing…You don’t have to abandon yourself to express love to another. Self-love means you are capable of holding sacred space for YOU. A space reserved where you can be refilled, over and over again.

It means you value yourself enough to put your needs first in an effort to pour love effectively into others. Self-love is like medicine because it promotes healing!

Self-love vs Selfishness.

When you practice the art of Self-love, it means you harken to your truth while respectfully valuing the truths of others. In contrast, Selfishness devalues truth in any form. It places its needs and wants at the center of every situation without the care of anyone else.

Self-love means you are accountable to the principles and practices of love. Whereas, selfishness prides itself on not following any principles or regulations, with no respect for boundaries.

When self-love is fully developed, you are in control, able to put selfishness in its proper place. A woman who has responded to the call of self-love conquers her own insecurities and issues because she recognizes that it is selfish for her not to live a purposeful life!

  1. The first thing that I need to do is be intentional about self love. I have to create an environment space and time and follow through and be consistent. I also have to give myself grace. The same amount of love I pour into everyone and everything else I need to pour into myself.
